Preventing Heartburn

There are a number of things that you can do to lower your chances of triggering heartburn, as well as the related complications. Everyone is different and has their own beliefs, and views. The purpose of this site isn't only to introduce you to herbal remedies and other alternative medicines, but also to take you through simple, natural changes that you can easily implement into your lifestyle to improve your life - if you want to that is.

So what can you do?

Firstly, you should look at changing your lifestyle so that you are less likely to trigger your heartburn, and there are a number of ways you can do this, through exercise and diet, as well as looking carefully at what you put into your body.

Secondly, you should look at how you can better prepare foods to not only make them more enjoyable and less fattening, but also healthier.

Next you should also keep a track of when your heartburn occurs. Look at not only the frequency of your heartburn but the time of day it occurs. Does it occur only at night, or at a certain time, or only after eating specific food items? This diary, if you keep it well, will determine the main factors that trigger your heartburn so you know better what to avoid in future.

Learn how to prevent heartburn. When you've tracked down what triggers heartburn for you, even if you can't avoid the item entirely, you may still be able to cut down the amount of times you come into contact with it, thereby naturally decreasing your chances of triggering heartburn.

For nighttime heartburn sufferers, try not to eat a heavy meal right before going to bed, but if you can't avoid it, try raising your head a few inches above your stomach level. I found this to be great method to alleviate my nighttime heartburn, and still use it to this day.

Finally, if your doctor has prescribed medicines for your heartburn then you should take them. I'm not saying that you should forget all about trying to prevent your heartburn using natural remedies, but what I am saying is that if the doctor has prescribed you a course of medication, your heartburn could be more serious or caused by something else. By all means try out natural remedies as well, but check with your doctor first to make sure that there won't be any side effects.
