Learn how to prevent heartburn. When you've tracked down what triggers heartburn for you, even if you can't avoid the item entirely, you may still be able to cut down the amount of times you come into contact with it, thereby naturally decreasing your chances of triggering heartburn.
For nighttime heartburn sufferers, try not to eat a heavy meal right before going to bed, but if you can't avoid it, try raising your head a few inches above your stomach level. I found this to be great method to alleviate my nighttime heartburn, and still use it to this day.
Finally, if your doctor has prescribed medicines for your heartburn then you should take them. I'm not saying that you should forget all about trying to prevent your heartburn using natural remedies, but what I am saying is that if the doctor has prescribed you a course of medication, your heartburn could be more serious or caused by something else. By all means try out natural remedies as well, but check with your doctor first to make sure that there won't be any side effects.
